Ingredients
Scale
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 red bell pepper, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water (for thickening)
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 2 cups shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional, for extra cheesiness)
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano (optional, for seasoning)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Brown the beef: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked. Drain any excess fat.
- Sauté the vegetables: Add the chopped onion, green bell pepper, and red bell pepper to the skillet. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Season the mixture: Stir in the salt, black pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and beef broth. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
- Thicken the sauce: Mix the cornstarch with water to create a slurry, then stir it into the beef mixture. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Combine with cream cheese: Remove the skillet from the heat and stir in the softened cream cheese until fully combined and creamy.
- Assemble the casserole: Transfer the beef and vegetable mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Spread it out evenly.
- Top with cheese: Sprinkle the shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese evenly over the top. If using, add a layer of shredded cheddar cheese as well. Dollop the mayonnaise over the cheese and sprinkle with dried oregano if desired.
- Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Serve: Let the casserole cool slightly before serving. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired, and enjoy!
