Description

Pioneer Woman’s Apple Tart features thinly sliced apples layered over a golden puff pastry crust. Lightly sweetened and spiced, the apples caramelize as they bake, creating a deliciously crispy and buttery tart with soft, sweet apples on top. It’s a classic apple dessert that highlights the flavors of the season.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet of puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
  • 4 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for tartness, or Fuji for sweetness)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional, to prevent apples from browning)
  • 1 tablespoon apricot jam or honey (optional, for glazing)
  • Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the Puff Pastry: Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to fit your baking sheet. Transfer the pastry to the lined baking sheet. Use a sharp knife to lightly score a 1-inch border around the edges of the puff pastry (this will help create a raised edge while baking).
  3. Slice the Apples: Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples into 1/8-inch slices. You can toss the slices with a little lemon juice to prevent browning if desired.
  4. Arrange the Apples: Layer the apple slices in an overlapping pattern inside the scored border on the puff pastry, starting from one end and working your way to the other.
  5. Brush with Butter and Sugar: Brush the apples with melted butter and sprinkle them evenly with granulated sugar and cinnamon.
  6. Bake the Tart: Bake the apple tart in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and the apples are tender and slightly caramelized.
  7. Optional Glaze: If you want a glossy finish, warm the apricot jam or honey in a small saucepan and brush it over the apples after the tart comes out of the oven.
  8. Cool and Serve: Let the tart cool for a few minutes before slicing. Dust with powdered sugar if desired and serve warm, preferably with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
