Description
Pioneer Woman’s Apple Crisp is a classic dessert made with juicy, spiced apples baked under a crisp, golden oat topping. The apples are sweetened and seasoned with cinnamon and sugar, while the topping is made from a blend of oats, flour, butter, and brown sugar. As it bakes, the topping becomes crisp and golden, providing a delightful contrast to the tender apples underneath.
Ingredients
Scale
- For the Apple Filling:
- 6–8 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- For the Crumble Topping:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare the apples: In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and flour. Toss until the apples are evenly coated. Pour the apple mixture into a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Make the crumble topping: In another mixing bowl, combine the flour, oats, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or fork to cut the butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Assemble the crisp: Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apples in the baking dish.
- Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Serve: Let the apple crisp cool slightly before serving. Serve warm, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream if desired.
