Description

Mary Berry Green Tomato Chutney is a traditional British preserve made from green tomatoes, onions, apples, and a mix of spices. It’s a delightful combination of tangy, sweet, and spicy, perfect for pairing with cheeses, cold meats, or simply spreading on a sandwich.


Ingredients

  • 1.5 kg green tomatoes
  • 500g onions
  • 500g cooking apples
  • 300g raisins
  • 700g granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1.5 liters of malt vinegar
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp ground mixed spic

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Chop the green tomatoes, onions, and apples into small pieces.
  2. Combine in a Pot: Place all the chopped ingredients into a large pot.
  3. Add Remaining Ingredients: Add raisins, sugar, salt, vinegar, ginger, and mixed spice to the pot.
  4. Bring to a Boil: Heat the mixture on medium heat until it starts boiling.
  5. Simmer: Reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally.
  6. Check Consistency: The chutney is ready when it has thickened and reduced.
  7. Cool and Store: Allow the chutney to cool before transferring it into sterilized jars.
