Created by the famous Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond, this dish uses a slow cooker to achieve a perfectly creamy texture without the need for constant stirring or monitoring. It’s an effortless way to enjoy a family favorite with minimal effort and maximum taste.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 4 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the macaroni: Cook the elbow macaroni according to the package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. Mix the cheeses: In a large bowl, combine the cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses.
  3. Combine wet ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the milk, heavy cream, sour cream, and melted butter.
  4. Layer ingredients: Spray the slow cooker with non-stick spray. Add a layer of macaroni, then a layer of mixed cheeses. Repeat until all ingredients are used.
  5. Add wet mixture: Pour the milk mixture over the layers of macaroni and cheese.
  6. Season: Add salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using) on top.
  7. Cook: Cover and cook on low for 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally until the cheese is melted and the mixture is creamy.
  8. Serve: Once cooked, serve hot and enjoy!
