Description

Dave’s Hot Chicken Sauce is a rich, spicy sauce made from a combination of hot sauce, butter, and a blend of spices. It’s designed to add a burst of heat and flavor to your chicken dishes, making them irresistible. This sauce is versatile and can be used as a marinade, a dip, or a drizzle over your favorite chicken recipes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup hot sauce (preferably cayenne pepper-based)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional for a hint of sweetness)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Measure out all the ingredients and set them aside.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat.
  3. Once the butter has melted, add the hot sauce, white vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce to the saucepan.
  4. Stir well to combine the ingredients thoroughly.
  5. Add the garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper to the sauce.
  6. Stir continuously until all the spices are well incorporated into the sauce.
  7. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  8. Taste and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper as needed. If you prefer a slightly sweeter sauce, add the honey at this stage and stir well.
  9. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the sauce cool slightly.
  10. Pour the sauce into a serving bowl or jar.

Notes

  • Adjust Spice Level: If you prefer a milder sauce, reduce the amount of cayenne pepper or choose a milder hot sauce. For more heat, add extra cayenne pepper or use a spicier hot sauce.
  • Consistency Tips: If the sauce is too thick, you can thin it out with a little water or extra vinegar. If it’s too thin, let it simmer a bit longer to reduce and thicken.
  • Serving Suggestions: This sauce is incredibly versatile. Try it on chicken wings, grilled chicken, or even as a spicy dip for fries or vegetables.
  • Storage Advice: For best results, store the sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Shake or stir well before each use as ingredients may separate.
  • Fresh Ingredients: Using fresh garlic and onion instead of powders can enhance the flavor, though it might slightly alter the texture.
  • Allergy Considerations: Ensure all ingredients used are safe for those with any allergies, particularly if serving to guests.
  • Customization: Feel free to experiment with adding other spices or herbs to suit your taste preferences. Cumin, oregano, or a splash of lemon juice can add a unique twist.
